When an annular gear A is used in epicyclic gear train, it is known as sun and planet gear train. The annular wheel meshes with wheel P and rotates as sun and planet gear as shown in Figure 15.28. The wheel S and P are, generally called the sun and the planet wheels, respectively due to analogy of motion of a planet around the sun.
