The Item Qualification Testing phase results in the formal verification of end item requirements.
Inputs
- 1. Approved formal procedures for end item qualification testing, based on the end item requirements specifications.
- 2. Accepted environments and supporting data for conducting the formal testing.
- 3. For item qualification testing conducted by OEM, Test and Inspection Record (TAIR) books that are ready to record the results of formal testing; these are jointly prepared by Quality Assurance (QA) and Engineering.
Process
The hardware and software end items are installed in the approved test environments. Item qualification dry runs may be conducted, and the work products and test procedures are updated as necessary. Testing is then conducted in accordance with the approved test procedures and the results are recorded. Test cases are witnessed by QA and (at their option) the customer. In some cases, intermediate results from this process will require posttest data reduction and analysis to determine the success or failure of a given test case.
Environmental testing for hardware end items verifies that the physical requirements such as size/dimensions, weight and balance, stress, dynamics, thermal, salt and fog, and electromagnetic interference/electromagnetic compatibility (EMI/EMC) have been met.
TAIR books are updated during the testing to record the results as they occur. The test results are documented in formal test reports for each end item.
Anomalies are recorded, analyzed, and corrected in coordination with the Aircraft Engineering Review Board (AERB). Regression testing is conducted as needed.
SE monitors this process and supports anomaly diagnosis and resolution.
Outputs
- 1. Qualified hardware and software end items.
- 2. Test reports capturing the results of the formal testing.
- 3. Preliminary system test procedures.
- 4. Anomaly reports.
- 5. Updates to requirements, design, and implementation documentation as needed to address the anomalies.
- 6. Regression test reports or updates to qualification test reports for modified software and hardware end items, as needed.
