Building finishes comprise of plastering, pointing, painting, varnishing, white/colour washing or distempering. These finishes are performed to satisfy the following functions:
- These finishes primarily form protective coating to the exposed surface. This implies that the finishes preserve and protect the materials and thereby increase the life span of the materials.
- These finishes add to the aesthetic view of the building and form a sort of decorative item.
Plastering is performed in majority of the cases and pointing is preferred in stone masonry and brick-masonry built by machine-moulded bricks.
Painting, varnishing, white/colour washing or distempering are applied to different type of materials which give a protection to the adverse weather and at the same time adds to the beauty of the building..
