This deals with different modes of heat transfer which are usually classified as conduction, convection and radiation. From the second law of thermodynamics, we know that the heat flows whenever there is existence of temperature difference or temperature gradient. Heat is a form of energy which is transferred from one body to another body at a lower temperature, by virtue of the temperature difference between the bodies. The concept of heat transfer is widely applicable in different fields of mechanical engineering such as heat exchanger, boiler, radiator, nuclear power plant, refrigeration, and air conditioning, etc. We will learn about the basic concepts of different modes of heat transfer.
