There are different forms of energy; all the energy cannot be used as a work. The convertibility of energy into work depends on its availability. In this chapter, we will discuss about the conversion of energy from one form to another and various sources of energy. The principles of operations of various types of power plant have been discussed such as thermal power plant, hydroelectric power plant, and nuclear power plant. Also the different sources of renewable and non-renewable form of energy have been introduced. The main application of power plant is to produce electrical power from other sources of energy such as coal, water, diesel, kerosene oil, gasoline, nuclear materials, tidal power, wind energy, geothermal energy, etc.
