Applications of IoT in sustainable farming

The IoT technology plays a vital role in agriculture farming. The country’s economy is dependent on agriculture (Abellanosa & Pava, 1987). Sustainability in agriculture signifies the agricultural resource management to meet the human requirements while conserving the natural resources and environmental quality. There are several issues in current farming practices like excessive use of fertilizers (Gomez & Thivant, 2015). In continuous agriculture too much water or too little water impacts soil texture and growth of crops (Anand et al., 2015). The conventional farming practices use synthetic fertilizers such as phosphorous and nitrogen compounds, whereas organic farming involves biodegradable fertilizers like animal manure which are less costly and not hazardous. Thus organic farming improves the sustainability (Ansari & Mahmood, 2017; Seufert et al., 2017).
