In Georgia, the Subsistence Minimum is calculated on the basis of a Consumer Basket, which is not the same as Food Basket. This includes, apart from the essential foodstuffs (thus excluding cigarettes, though they are a part of regular expenditure in most homes), other services and utilities. Since these utilities are shared by all members of the family, and their costs for each individual cannot be computed separately, the consumer basket is computed for the family as a whole. The basket varies with the size of the family and the age composition of its members.
The same method is used in Mongolia, where 508 primary necessary commodities and services are included in the basket. Here, eight different types of consumption baskets are constructed for different groups, and the items included in it are valued at current prices.
