The dairy farming is milk production agriculture for long term which is an alternative food for human infants. Smart dairy farming includes three main areas:
- Automatic milking
- Automated feeding
- Quality and health of cattle
The automatic or robotic milking has existed in the industry since 1990s. Cow feeding with different techniques is shown in Table 8.3.
Serial number | Milking type | Pictorial representation | Efficiency (cows/hour) |
---|---|---|---|
1. | Bali | 50 | |
2. | Swingover | 60 | |
3. | Herringbone | 75 | |
4. | Rotary | 250 |
The smart electronics, cameras and laser technology are used to identify (through RFID tags) the cows for milk preparation. To achieve this smart milking, intelligent monitoring with sophisticated robots is required. The automated feeding is enabled by the systems like unmanned ground vehicles for feeding the cows every 4–5 hours. Feeding robots are filled with food based upon the cow’s type. The health of the cows is also monitored to produce quality milk. Through smart dairy farming with advanced technology, the condition of the cows is also monitored to check whether the cow is pregnant.
