Effects of Cavitation

• Cavities are formed on the surface and metallic surface are damaged.
• Due to sudden collapse of vapour bubbles, considerable noise and vibrations are produced
• Efficiency of turbine decreases.

Cavitation depends on vapour pressure, absolute or barometric pressure, suction pressure and effective dynamic head, and absolute velocity of water at runner exit.
